Woman charged with fraud

The Renfrew detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to 153 calls for service during the past week, including car-deer collisions, drug offences, domestics, and general calls for service.

 

FRAUD

On Oct. 17 Const. Hartwick entered a fraud investigation reported by Noron Satellite Communication Store in Renfrew. It was believed an employee had defrauded the company of a substantial amount of money.  Investigation by Renfrew Crime Unit members Detective Constables Lori Birmingham and Wendy Gamache resulted in a 35-year-old Renfrew woman being charged with fraud over $5,000, two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of forgery, two counts of utter forged documents and one count of possess proceeds of property obtained by crime. She was served a summons to appear in court Jan. 7, 2009.

 

RIDE

The annual Festive Ride Season began Nov. 28 and the OPP reminds the public to act responsibly.  Arrive alive, don’t drink and drive. 

Within this past reporting week 11 RIDE checks were conducted in the Renfrew OPP patrol area.

The checks resulted in two Highway Traffic Act charges and two Criminal Code charges.

The Eastern Region OPP reports the compaign will run for five weeks, which ends Jan. 2, 2009.

Motorists can expect to see RIDE checkstops set up at various locations at any time of day.

 

DOMESTICS

Six domestics were reported this past week. One resulted in a 48-year-old man being charged with four  counts of breach of probation.  An arrest warrant had been issued for the man Nov. 25. The man was located Nov. 27, arrested and held for a Dec. 1 bail hearing. Const. Mike Hartwick is investigating.

 

DRUGS

On Nov. 24 at about 7 p.m., OPP Renfrew officer Ryan Besner stopped a motor vehicle for driving through a red light at the intersection of Stewart St. and Bruce St. in Renfrew.  The driver of the 1992 Oldsmobile was  a 43-year-old Renfrew man. He was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for failing to stop for a red light. He was also arrested at the scene and released with an appearance notice after being charged with possession of cannabis marijuana under 30 grams.

 

LIQUOR LICENSE ACT

At around 3:15 a.m. Nov. 30 the Renfrew OPP was notified of a single male pedestrian meandering along the middle of Argyle Street South in Renfrew. Const. Tim Broder responded and located the man in the parking lot behind the Royal Bank of Canada building. The 27-year-old Renfrew man was arrested and held overnight. He was given Provincial Offences Notices for being intoxicated in a public place and having liquor in other than licensed premises.

 

HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ACT

Just before noon Nov. 28, Ottawa OPP traffic officer B. Dawson stopped the driver of a 2004 Ford pickup truck on Hwy. 17 for driving at an excessive speed.  The pickup truck was westbound in the area of Scheel Road in McNab-Braeside Township. The driver was a 45-year-old Carleton Place man. He was issued a Part 3 Summons, charged with racing a motor vehicle, had his driving privileges suspended for seven days, and his truck was towed and impounded.
